RIP: Ian Abercrombie, a veteran British character actor who is best remembered for his role as Mr. Pitt on Seinfeld, passed away Thursday in Hollywood at age 77.
Abercrombie has played dozens of parts over the years since his start in a 1955 production of Stalag 17.
Though he is best known to many as Elaine Benes’s boss, Abercrombie also had a memorable turn as Wiseman in Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness, and was a regular on The WB’s short-lived drama Birds of Prey.
More recently he provided the voice of Palpatine/Darth Sidious for both the Clone Wars film and subsequent television series.
He is survived by his three brothers — Douglas, Donald and Alex.

On Thursday night’s episode of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon wowed us with some flag knowledge during Sheldon Cooper Presents Fun With Flags.
“The flags of Liechtenstein and Haiti were identical by coincidence — a fact that wasn’t discovered until they competed against each other at the 1936 Olympics.”
I love vexillology.
